📙 My Story

Me with mezzi rigatoni Alle Gricia @ Mejo in Rome

Pizza at Da Michele in Napoli

The beautiful coast of Polignano a Mare, Puglia
🇮🇹 Favorite Region in Italy
Sicily followed quickly by Piemonte.
🍴 Best Meal in Italy
La Cantinetta, Barolo - multi courses that kept coming until we waved the white flag. Uova da raviolo was life changing. The server spoke no English but found it his duty to play charades so we knew what we were eating.
🤔 Florence, Venice or Rome?
Rome. There is more to see than by the train station. It takes a few trips to understand where to spend your time, but worth it when you figure it out.
🚗 Off the Beaten path
LaMorra - the view from the cliff looking over the hills of nebbiolo in Piemonte is unforgettable. Grottaglie - the ceramic town of Puglia. Who knew ceramics could be so exciting and different? Modica - Sicilian chocolate is amazing.
☝️ Pointers or Tips?
Be slightly early to pick up your rental car. It is the only time when "italian time" may not be acceptable. Ask people where they would take their family to eat if you do not have reservations already made.
👀 Where do you still want to visit?
Parma. All my favorite foods are there.
😱 What surprised you the most when you first visited Italy?
Italians give 100% of their attention to you when they engage with you. There are not many cultures that do this.
❤️ What is it about Italy that really speaks to you?
Simplicity is perfection. The combination of the history, art, topography and cuisine cannot be matched.
🌾🍷 How does this tie in to you working at Etto/Giornata?
Providing knowledge of products and how to prepare them is really fun. Where you find great food, there will also be great wine.
🍝🍷 Favorite Etto Pasta/ Giornata Wine?
Reginette with broccolini and sausage in light cream sauce (and pasta water) with lots of pecorino. Il Campo Rosso is a great table wine with almost everything.
