Reset and Rejuvenate with Dry Pasta January

I just learned that the early Roman calendars did not use the months of January and February. Instead, this time of year was a nebulous winter period that was a time for almost a human hibernation and the new year began in March. Sure, while many of us would delight in a two month break of hibernation to chill and take some downtime that's unfortunately not possible in this modern world.

Now we look to January as a time for resolutions and many see it as a month to reset after a period overindulgence during the holidays. A newish phenomena is the advent of "Dry January" which began innocently in 2011 from a woman in the UK training for a half marathon. It then became widely adopted in the UK and spread from there in 2013. Well if I had known Emily Robinson in 2011 the world might be celebrating "Dry Pasta January" instead, since we all know the best food to eat the night before a big run is pasta. Etto pasta is a "clean" (big buzzword in food right now) and single ingredient (most pasta is not), thus making it the perfect food to kick off your new year in the month of January.

I don't know a single person who's participated in "dry January" who doesn't complain about it. I'm sure Emily back in 2011 lamented not being able to knock back a pint with her mates after a rewarding run. A simple swap to "Dry Pasta January" would have improved her lot in life and also her time on the run for sure. Just as a refresher here are some of the benefits of eating Etto pasta and celebrating "Dry Pasta January".

Etto Dried Pasta

Low Glycemic - which means low in sugar compared to most favorite foods including many vegetables.

Complex Carbohydrate - as a complex carbohydrate pasta cooked al dente (more on this next week) breaks down slowly in the body for around 36 hours without sugar spikes providing fuel and energy for active folks especially kids.

Protein by the Etto - Hopefully by now you know that Etto means 100 grams. A perfect portion of pasta for a meal. 100 grams of Etto pasta has 13-14 grams of protein without any additions. A little lean meat, veggies or cheese can boost this number.

Vegan and Vegetarian - If you don't eat meat or need a little break after the holiday meat wagon, Etto pasta combined with fresh vegetables, legumes or Mighty Cap mushrooms is the perfect satisfying meatless lunch or dinner.

Single Ingredient - Etto is a single ingredient food like a piece of fruit or vegetable from the farmer's market. The water we mix with our organic flour evaporates during our drying process. It's a magical transformation.

Evil Gluten - We've had dozens of happy and grateful customers of Etto pasta report that the discomfort from gluten does not exist with our pasta. These folks tend to be our biggest evangelists. We suppose it has something to do with the organic supply chain and our commitment to high quality flour and our sparkling clean facility. Come see for yourself by taking a Factory Tour.

So this January please enjoy dried pasta with us and don't feel guilty about an occasional libation with friends. You can smile knowing you are resetting 2026 with clean healthy food that will make any race you are running a success including the race of life.

Long Live "Dry Pasta January"
